Bassist and composer Karl Onibuje presents Orun, a project that explores the meeting point of tradition, improvisation, and contemporary jazz. The name Orun, meaning “heaven” or “the spiritual realm” in Yoruba, reflects the music’s intention: to create a space for reflection, connection, and movement. Drawing on West African rhythms, jazz improvisation, and subtle elements of rock and ambient folk, Orun blends intricate grooves, expressive horn lines, and exploratory interplay into a sound that feels both rooted and forward-looking. The music celebrates London’s jazz scene as a vibrant crossroads of global influences, offering an experience that is meditative, immediate, and alive. Whether you are a longtime jazz enthusiast or new to the genre, Orun offers a unique opportunity to experience music as a living, evolving ritual—a journey through sound that lingers long after the performance ends. Line Up: Jonathan Idiabonya (piano) Rory Simmons (trumpet) Yusef Ahmed (drums) Ed Rich (guitar)
