At a young age, he joined Clube da Esquina, a group formed in Minas Gerais in the late 1960s that blended influences from rock, samba, and Brazilian regional music. Alongside singer Milton Nascimento and other collaborators, he contributed to the album *Clube da Esquina* (1972), a landmark in MPB for its blend of poetry and sonic experimentation.
